Dr. Nelson is the owner of Nelson Veterinary Surgical Solutions providing mobile surgical services, teaching and mentorship to new graduates and veterinarians interested in growing as clinicians to be able to provide a variety of surgical services to their communities. Dr. Nelson was born in northern California and attended the University of Miami (FL) as an undergraduate student earning a BA music and a minor in film, before perusing a degree in veterinary medicine from the Royal Veterinary College in the UK in 2014 where he qualified with honours and co-authored a paper on the accuracy of radiologic measurements. Following graduation, he worked under the mentorship of talented veterinarians with advanced practitioner certifications in surgery, internal medicine and cardiology at Forest Veterinary Centre in Epping, UK. Here he developed his surgical skills in advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, logical approach to medicine, diagnostic capabilities in ultrasound, endoscopy, CT and MRI, and eventually became one of the Clinical Directors leading the hospital group. After moving back to the US and settling in Austin, Texas, Dr. Nelson stepped into the role of medical director at New Hope Animal Hospital where he lead and mentored a team of seven associate general practitioners to provide high quality first opinion services as well as advanced diagnostics, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgical services at reasonable cost to his community.
After stepping down from his leadership role, he founded Nelson Veterinary Surgical Solutions in hopes of making advance veterinary surgery more available and more affordable to communities and pets in need.
When not working in the veterinary field, Dr. Nelson spends time with his wife, three children and pets (three dogs, three cats, a rabbit and a leopard gekko), as well as tending to their chickens and bees.
